Ending Family Violence Training in Asheville

Friends – thank you for your leadership in building faith communities that help prevent domestic violence in our community.  The national organization, Faith Trust Institute, will host a day long regional training to help churches protect victims, prevent harm and respond effectively to domestic violence on October 15th. Please plan to attend this training and share the invitation with colleagues.

Registration closes October 3rd! A special thanks to Jane Morrow who has worked to bring Faith Trust here to Asheville to continue to grow our community’s work in preventing domestic violence.

A flyer is attached and there are more details here: http://www.faithtrustinstitute.org/training/safe-and-healthy-churches-2016

“FaithTrust Institute and InFaith Community Foundation are offering a groundbreaking training to infuse faith communities with the tools and knowledge they need to address domestic violence, and other forms of family violence, in Asheville, NC. Safe and Healthy Churches: Ending Family Violence Training focuses on educating a team within each church community, to create a core leadership with a shared mission of preventing violence, supporting victims and holding perpetrators accountable. The 2016 training is gathering churches from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The regional approach is part of an ongoing effort to create a broad-based response to the issues, and build an ecumenical network for education, training, support, and activism within and amongst the churches.”

TRAINING DETAILS:

DATE: Saturday, October 15, 2016

LOCATION: MAHEC Campus, 121 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC

This one-day training, offered by InFaith Community Foundation and facilitated by FaithTrust Institute, is designed to help Christian pastors and lay leaders understand the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence and the ramifications of violence on individuals, the church and the community. It also highlights protocols to protect victims, prevent future harm, and respond effectively and sensitively to victims/survivors, their families, and abusers. Churches from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia are invited to apply.

This will be an opportunity for all of the churches in the area to update their Safe Sanctuaries training, as well as a good time to gather together as a community.

The training will be lead by the Reverend David Warren. Please inform of your volunteers who work with children, and try to attend, if possible.

We will also offer a  CPR training that day at 2:00pm. We understand this would make for a long day, but if you or some of your volunteers would like CPR training, it will be a great opportunity to get all of your training done in one day!
